Know all gentles that when winter loosens its hold upon the high mountains, the folk of the Alpine lands rejoice in the first gifts of spring. As the mud thaws around us this dayboard draws its inspiration from Switzerland and the surrounding alpine regions, where herds return to pasture, fresh dairy is made anew, and simple, sustaining foods are shared among travelers, farmers, and households alike.
Set upon the board shall be fare fitting for the season: coarse breads of grain, fresh and aged cheeses, butter made rich by spring grass, sausages and cured meats, beans, greens, and roots, and fruits, nuts, and honeyed treats. These foods reflect the customs of mountain life—practical, hearty, and well suited to cool air and long days.
This is a dayboard, not a seated feast. Food shall be offered in small portions, both warm and cold, to be taken as one wills throughout the day, and refreshed as time and company allow.
