Thursday February 14, 2008Present: Lady Suba al-Hadid, Lord Robin Gallowglass. Lady Elenora, Amina bint Suba, Mistress Shannon Gallowglass, Lord Mael Eoin, Wyn Filiawen Meeting came to order at 7:50pm. Officer’s reports Seneschal The thing that's on everybody's mind (not chocolate!) .... I have been doing some reserach on the canton coming out of incipiency. We've been incipient for 4.5 years. For the size of our canton we are heavily over-officered. We have approximately 20 paid members on the books in our Canton. Of all the people in te canotn paid or otherwise, we have 8-10 acive adults shoin up at events andmeetings. Of those 8-10, 8 of us are officers which means we have no backup pool of active people to take over critical offices in case of life emergency. The gut rule of thumb is to have twice as many active people as officers. It is strongly believed that doing this will make us look much better to kingdom. Motion to reduce the number of officers - Robin, Mael and Shannon second. Discussion: We need a seneschal, an exchequer, and one of the following three: moas, herald, or knight marshall. Most of our members have devices, plus the baronial herald resides in our canton. Our canton is very arts-heavy, so MOAS is the most logical third required officer for our canton. We do still want to actively recruit, so we'd better keep a Chatelaine. In order to come out of incipiency we need to be long-term viable, which means having people available on paper to swap out officers when needed. We still need and want people to fulfil the roles they've been filling as long as they're willing to continue, merely relinquish the title. A good benefit of this is that some people might want to get involved in a project without taking on the role of officer. Robin has discussed this with the affected officers who are not present and they are in favor. Is anyone opposed? Suba abstains. Motion passes. Keeping seneschal, exchequer, Moas, and Chatelaine. Exchequer We have $768.48. Still. Chatelaine We have new gold key from Cat -Bodices and skirts. Web Mininster We no longer have a webminister; this post has been administratively dissolved as of this meeting. This will be removed from next month's agenda. Herald Administratively dissolved. MOAS We have restarted A&S nights on Thursdays we've had two meetings and we're doing riviting - Muin makes this hopping fun. We are doing cool things. Next Thursday (next week) 1st and 3rd thursdays are A&S nights. I would like to have an A&S project for the incoming king and queen - they'd like to have gifts to give to other kingdoms. They'd also like to see more of the blue tyger badge for the kingdom. We'd like to have a workshop. Robin is making silicon molds and doing two-part resin casting. If Elenora makes a master out of fimo clay then we can make a mold and turn out several tokens. Muin has been teaching us how to make fibulae which make great cloak clasps from which we can hang the tyger tokens. Elenora will schedule the workshop and notify everyone. Wood shop will start in spring. A&S Night is on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month from 7pm - 10pm at Lady Elenora's. Bhakail Garb workshops are still 2nd and 4th Tuesday nights in nearby Clifton Heights. Lots of people attend. Dance Practice Monday nights. We have space! On March 24th we have a visiting dance master (Justinian), for which we will put out flyers, posters, etc as part of our recruiting plan. Chamberlain Dissolved. Chronicler Dissolved and resigned. Knight Marshall Dissolved and resigned (amused). Special committees Finance Committee Reviewed the Investiture budget and it is under discussion. Event Committees Tavern event Is dead. Bhakail Investiture Is on! Next event meeting is Monday Feb 25th 7pm-8:30 at Indian Lane. Sign up for the bhakail_investiture yahoogroup to get more information. Old Business was:Plans to inquire to Kingdom
about graduating from incipiency about 5 months from now. After
the January
quarterly report we'll inquire. Donation to EK travel fund by Barony has been suggested to be matched by other groups. Finance committee will examine it. Consider doing something like favors to include spectators in demos. - tabled. motion table - Suba, second Shannon. Motion passes. New Business Tiphane. - Medieval golf with Lord Bryan who is willing to make the clubs - we need a site. Ridley Creek state park "Take a Whack" would be the title and it could include fighting under that title. It is sort of like long-range putt-putt miniature golf - it seems to be that they liked to just pick a spot and try to hit it. Arasapha is an ideal site for this. Information on making balls will be made available. They are hardwood balls, so wear a helmet. Canton is generally in favor of this and will very likely get involved. Comments for the Good of the Canton The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2007 at 7:30pm at Middletown Free Library.
