Canton Meeting Minutes

Wednesday May 24, 2006

Present: Lord William Graham, Lady Suba al-Hadid, Lady Eleanora the Tilemaker, Lady Damiana Aldomovar.

Meeting called to order at 7:38pm

Officer’s reports

Seneschal

Well! it's the beginning of summer. i'ts been an interesting year - ups and downs. Keeping all the canton's ducks in a row.

Beltane went pretty well. Seems like everyone left feeling good about the event. As seneschal one of my goals was to see what would happen. We did it! To me, that was a test to see where we are as a canton. Having said that, it's time for us to go for full status. I'll be talking to Grainne over the next couple months. I have the packet for going full-status. That's my next agenda item, in addition to workring with the Chatelaine to improve recruitment and retention. I just want the canton to be aware that we're pursuing full status. I think we've proved ourselves and our officers are seasoned and committed to continuing.

Still waiting for final numbers from Beltane. As it stands we have about $100 profit.

Chatelaine

Lady Philadelphia ran the newcomer's information table at Beltane and handed out and retrieved Gold Key. Thank you!

MOAS

Bardic workshops at Tristan's house on second mondays, check with Tristan: bardic@feoragdubh.eastkingdom.org.

Brewer's Guild meets 2nd Wednesdays at rotating locations - check with Lord William: seneschal@feoragdubh.eastlingdom.org

Workshop for making Beltane tokens (pouches) was April 15th at 2pm. Pouches were completed at a subsequent workshop on April 23rd.

Upcoming workshops include:
* silk painting moorish designs, possibly Tuesday June 13th. Watch for an e-mail announcement.
* mosaic workshop
* one or more dance revels
* garb workshops will resume for the summer

Herald

Nothing to report.

Chamberlain

Damiana has troll felt banners.

Want to make new event area signs & SCA road signs.

Notes: water does go stale in plastic containers. Also the event budget supports the purchase of water. If water can be bought on sale ahead of time, save receipts for reimbursements.

Martial Activities

Thrown weapons practice starting Monday June 5th. Will be Mondays all summer

Delaware has fighter practice in claymont.

Alaine runs a fencing practice on Friday nights in Delaware.

Archery in Delaware at Padraig's

We need new targets for thrown weapons if anyone has any down trees.

Special committees

Finance Committee

Reimbursement for Hoses for Beltane approved.

Proposal before the committee to purchase a portable hole for the banner.

Event Committees

Beltane:

Idea for next time - portable shower stall.

Last committee report until August. Preliminary numbers suggest that we have approximately $100 profit.

Old Business

Pole stand in progress. Best portable holes are found at Pennsic and are $40. Dan is Building an indoor polestand for the canton banner.

New Business

If we go full status, do we want to make a sheetwall for EK Royal for Pennsic? Under consideration.

Should the canton have a commons and/or a new-member meeting? Could have it in a park for local interest and a small tourney. This is open to discussion. June would be nice; maybe fall.

Hartshorndale is in charge of the H-B commons this year.

Should we skip the July meeting and have an August meeting instead? Sube motion, Damiana second, all were in favor..

Want to look for a new demo in media. Media often holds really cool events hugely attended. If we can into one of those events and make a mini-ren faire, it would increase our visibility.

Comments for the good of the Canton

Alles Faire is Mem Day Weekend. All of us will be there.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June28 , 2006 at 7:30pm at the home of Eleanora the Tilemaker.
