Officer’s reports:

Seneschal

How's everybody doing? Good Pennsic? Wet Pennsic.

It's been a great year - learned a lot bout self and others. Next year will be more hands-on from me. To move things forward. We will continue to do things as well as we always have.

New deputy Seneschal: William Graham.

Work has begun on Beltaine Brew & Brawl '05, volunteers are needed, see Lady Melodie to volunteer.

Need to re-open the Beltaine special committee under new business.

We are close to having an indoor fencing site - paper work is almost squared away. Aynthing that needs to be signed I must address in order to make it legally binding.

Rumors of a fighting site in Delaware are true but things are NOT final. Official talks with Marietta and Alain about getting the site in Delaware. Nothing from Marietta has officially sanctioned this practice. Make sure you sign waivers and everything else if you go; go ahead and enjoy. Considered joint between the Canton and Caer Adamant. Would be a thursday night practice. Not going to sanction anything official until we discuss it here (canton meeting).

Attended Southern Region Seneschals' Meeting at pennsic with Duncan, the Southern Region Seneschal). Waiver lists and forms for all marshalled activities must be kept.. Not to resemble a mailing list - just names and card numbers; marshal in charge must keep the record for a year. Geoffrey is aware of the necessary paperwork; once we get a ppublished practice site the seneschal will get copies of all that paperwork.

S. Reg. Seneschals Meeting part II - forming stricter laws to cover holes in EK law. As a canton we do not have the power to enact our own laws. If there is something we are not happy with and there is a hole in EK law or baronial law, must go to Bilgisayar (Baronial Seneschal) and get it put before the bylaws committee.

If there are any problems or concerns, please let me know - Duncan has requested that we flood him with problems or concerns - not guaranteed an answer in a timely fashion.

Beltaine has ben submitted as an annual event. Don't know that's going to go since we've only been going a year. This is to give us prioroty in the scheduling. Steps are being taken to make sure that annual events within the southern region don't step on each other, since calendar has been such an issue lately. Beltaine has been listed; either the first weekend in may or the last weekend in April. Still doesn't guarantee that we won't get stepped on by crown.

This has been my first year as Seneschal and it has been enjoyable and a large learning experience. In this coming year you will see a much more hands-on seneschal as opposed to passive leadership that I am used to. Let's make the coming year a good one and move on in our endeavor.

Exchequer

Wen t to an exchequer's meeting at Pennsic. SCA exchequer has a group . Gave the rules for recording for cantons or guilds. There's a whole sheet here. If the canton does not have its own bank account as of the issuing of the ruling then they're not going to get one and we'll keep our funds with the barony and the funds will be marked as ours; the barony then reports our funds with theirs.

Income to date: $4767.00

Oru expenses $3589.25

Balance: $1177.75 in the dedicated fund portion of the canton.

Keegan needs to submit approx $30 receipt for pilings for gate which we donated to the baronial encampment.

Chatelaine

Nothing new to report. Got an email from a new person. Have to check if we responded.

Tony and Anne have joined us tonight.

Baronial website has an engine for new people to enter interests and it generates e-mails to the appropriate people.

Lady Phialdelphia asked if anyone is available tomorrow and/or the 20th; need people to sit at table and do A&S and recruit students. Noon-4. Interested, e-mail lady Philadelphia.

Intro to Pennsic DVD 1 hour version and 15 min version available from Deiniol

Mistress of Arts and Sciences

Looking into making kingdom award favors. See www.dragonbear.com for crosstitch patterns. Incoming K&Q need them. Event in winter like Athena's thimble for general A&S like a schola. Probably just a dayboard ; can use the same site. Could be a potluck feast. Plan for winter of '06. If anyone is interested in running it, speak up.

Domesday book - need copies of scrolls. Get color copies of awards for next month.

Brewer's meeting this wednesday; guild elections at Michael and Amy knauer's house in norristown.

Garb workshops? None at this time. Rashid is in NJ. Possibly might start something in the barony. Recruit Cellach? - Possibly recruit different people for different kinds of garb.

Tabards? Nothing needed for the group right now except EK awards medallions.

Herald

Working on Keegan's Melodie's, and William's devices. Magdalena has documentation for her name and can submit. Katrine re-submitted for last name conflict. Jamilia submitted name at war.

Herald's night potential workshop. Deiniol.

Banner-making workshop - Pennants too. Saturday sounds good - early afternoon. Planning underway.

Marshal of Fence

We are working on a site - William instrumental in working on a spot in bethel township in a grade-school cafeteria. This is premature but: the school has approved us for tuesday nights - the disctrict has to get approval and let us know if there will be a cost. Once we find out we can consider what we'll do. Iron bog has a $2 surcharge as do many other proactices. Or we could do some easy fundraiser. Prefer very much for it to be free. Parking is great; nice area. School is brand-new. Insurance has been taken care of.

Mini practice on Tuesday in a little park in Ridley park. Once we have an official site we'll announce official practices.

Katrine has been working with fencers in the Kingdom of Atlantia. They have a melee practice pre kingdom crusades about 45 minutes from ridley park. $5 per carload. Katrine has info for anyone who's interested. Site is in Caer adamant. 26th of september. Posted on the Tadcaster website. For priceing and directionssee the link. The link for the EK-Atlantian practice mentioned in Geoffrey's report: http://www.smidgeonink.com/tadcaster_militia/atlantian_practice.html

Preliminary site -seeking stuff - possibly Indian Lane for K&Q fencing champions. If using this site need to have canton bless the (note may of '06 is 40th anniversary of SCA) Would be winter '05-'06. Militia members are instrumental in working on this. Seneschal would have to sign paperwork.

Keegan got third place in the novice tourney at Pennsic. Kat Griff, Thomas , Bruni, and Geoff placed 5th of 35 in five-man melee. Griff kept the iron ring at Pennsic. Cheers all around.

Bish Geoffrey fencing tourney is Sunday; pickups on Saturday.

Lakewood Ren Faire will be big for fencers the following week

Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins - big archery event in Carrillon, rapier tourneys will be held based on monsters.

Webmistress

A tragic hardware failure has delayed posting of the newsletter and any updates to the webpage. The software was reloaded today and postings will resume this week.

Chronicler

Georffyey motion second Fiona to add Beltaine added to special committess list.

Beltaine list is back up - if you need to be added let Mel know. Gavan wants to be added.

Budget info has been posted on the Beltaine list - poll available also. Need feedback. Need to provide a day rate and teens need to be a lower price than adults so they are not subject to NMS.

5-10% more people because of day rate - 2-3% more in expenses for those people.

Rapier ideas -pending - need a budget. Want a pub brawl - masks are involved.

Old Business

Finance comiittee - standing members Fiona, Keegan, Suba. Fiona motion to announce members interested in joining finance committee, second Suba. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the finance committee must announce this intent at or before the next canton meeting. At the next canton meeting we will finalize membership of this committee.

Gate went over well and it's in storage at Pennsic. Canton donated the concrete footings and poles.

Geoffrey - Rapier stuff for Beltaine - and tavern concept - a woods melee that involves sheet walls and 'buildings' made of pvc pipe. Have the fabric courtesy of Deiniol. Donating completed project to canton. Could be used for sectioning a gym for various activities too. Need a way of holding the sheets up - Keegan will donate the construction. will need money from the canton to construct. could use to separate lists as well. Heavy weapons could use but might not work out as well. Good for staking out lists of any kind, including kids areas. Could be a maze for kids.

Dance practice? Indian lane is free. Motion to investigate Geoffery - second Corwyn. A&S event?

Canton contributions to Yule? Fundraising at Yule for canton? Keegan will investigate this with Cal.
