East Kingdom Southern Region Brewers' University May 7, 2005

After the long winter of ice and snow, spring arrives and the tumpets sound. Warriors take to the fields. But for one moment, warriors and artisans put aside their differences and lift their flagons high. Calling all southern region brewers to our University in the fair Canton of the Vallley of the Black Squirrel. The East Kingdom Brewers Guild and our fair Canton are working together on providing education to all brewers in our fair kingdom. These classes are designed for beginners and masters alike. Come out this May to share knowledge and learn more about the art of brewing to keep our good kingdom happy and in good spirits. A hearty dayboard will be provided throughout the entire day.

10:00 to 10:30 meet and greet

10:30-11:45 Winemaking 101
Instructor: Mistress Lettice Peyton of Ashdowne
A brief history of wine and how to make it in a period fashion with modern equipment.

11:45-1:00 Basic and Intermediate Mead-making
Instructor: Baron Master Sean de Londres
Class will cover all aspects of Mead-making for the beginner, as well as tips for the intermediate brewer. Class will have a section on different honeys; to include honey samples.

1:00- 1:30 – Break

1:30 - 2:45 Knowing and Understanding Period Beer Styles
Instructor: Lord William Graham
Instructor will cover a few Period beer styles in class and allow class to sample said styles. Class will utilize the BJCP style guide as a resource.

2:45 - 4:00 Period Cordials
Instructor: Baroness Mistress Suzanne Neüber de Londres
Distillation and other forms of Extraction. This class will follow the transformation of the medieval medicinal elixir to the potable known as a cordial. This class will include a history of distillation as well as other processes of flavor extraction.

4:00 - 4:15 – Break

4:15 - 5:45 East Kingdom Brewer Guild Meeting/Round Table
This session will be used for a general guild meeting, as well as an opportunity for brewers to have their beverages tasted. Masters & Journeymen of the Guild will be available to troubleshoot production problems where applicable, and will attempt to answer any questions that may come up.

From Philadelphia and points north. Take 95 Southbound towards Delaware. After Philadelphia Airport start looking for signs for 476 (Blue Route). Take 476 North to the second exit (Media/Springfield). MAke a left onto Baltimore Pike at the bottom of the ramp. Go up 4 lights (gas station on right near Acme strip mall). Go through light, Media Inn is immediatly on the right.

From Delaware and points South. Take 95 North towards Philadelphia. Go towards Chester Pa and get onto 476 Northbound. Take 476 North to the second exit (Media/Springfield). MAke a left onto Baltimore Pike at the bottom of the ramp. Go up 4 lights (gas station on right near Acme strip mall). Go through light, Media Inn is immediatly on the right.

From points West. Get onto Pa Turnpike and go east. Look for 476 South (Mid County). Get onto the Blue Route 476 and go South. After the St David's exit go 3 more exits. Get off at Media/Springfield exit. Go right at bottom of the ramp onto Baltimore Pike. Go up 3 lights (gas station on right near Acme strip mall). Go through light, Media Inn is immediately on the right.

Site : Adult $10.00, includes dayboard. Please be advised, there is a $3.00 non-member surcharge.
Please pre register. A hefty dayboard is planned, and advanced head count will be needed.
