8 pts Prizes First Place Beer/Ale General Rules1. Eligibility Open to any person that is an active member of the SCA, at least 21 years of age, and attending the event. All entries must fit into one of the categories in section 8 below and must have been produced by the entrant. 2. Number of Entries Entrants may enter up to 2 items in a single category. Entrants may enter as many of the competition categories as they wish. 3. Bottles Entrants should provide 1 bottle (or other suitable container) of at least
6 fluid ounces per entry. Bottles with ground glass stoppers will not
be accepted. 4. Documentation Documentation requirements vary between competition types. The basics are listed here: Recipe documentation: Process Documentation: Historical Context: Extremely minimal or lack of documentation can hurt your entry. Without knowing anything about the entry, the judges may be forced to make certain assumptions that may hurt your scores. 5. Submission Process Entries
will be accepted between posted times: 10am to Noon.
The location will be posted at Troll or some other designated area. Entries
will not
be
accepted
before
or after posted times except when granted by pre-arrangement due to extenuating
circumstances (e.g. distance of travel). There will be no fee for entering the competition. 6. Fine Print All entries accepted will be judged as best as possible regardless of compliance with these rules. However, entries not meeting the above requirement may not be eligible for prizes and honors. The decision of the competition organizers and judges will be final concerning eligibility, prizes, and honors. 7. Category Differentiation Beer/Ale: Any potable that derives the majority of its fermentable sugars from grain. These may contain other sources of fermentable sugars, as long as the majority is from grain. If there is no majority (Midas Touch Ancient Ale, for example), the judges will determine its categorical placement. Wine: Any potable that derives the majority of its fermentable sugars from fruit. These may contain other sources of fermentable sugars, as long as the majority is from fruit. If there is no majority, the judges will determine its categorical placement. Mead: Any potable that derives the majority of its fermentable sugars from honey. These may contain other sources of fermentable sugars, as long as the majority is from honey. If there is no majority, the judges will determine its categorical placement. Cordial: Any infusion of flavoring agents (herbs, spices, fruit, etc) in an alcoholic base. Bases include, but are not limited to: distilled alcohol, wine, mead, and beer/ale. Cordials may be sweetened or unsweetened. Other: Any item that does not fall into an above category. Items such as ciders, kumis, kvass, vinegars and non-alcoholics fall into this category. 8. Judging Process Each beverage will be judged by a panel of knowledgeable judges according
to the scoring numbers listed above. Each potable is judged individually,
according to form and style and according to the documentation provided. |
